Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report Abstract:	Second volume of a two-volume report on a project aimed at documenting Mesolithic settlement on the islands of Islay and Colonsay and, in interpreting it, to throw light on a number of major issues: the colonisation of Scotland following the last Ice Age; the nature of early postglacial settlement patterns; and the transition to Neolithic and farming communities. The report is divided into nine sections, those in the second volume describing the results of archaeological survey and excavations on Colonsay, and in particular at Staosnaig; the computer modelling of site location and foraging behaviour; the experimental replication of tool manufacture and use; and the character and inter-site variability of the chipped stone assemblages. The monograph concludes with an overall interpretation of the diverse strands of evidence regarding Mesolithic settlement in this region.
