Abstract
Freens Court, Sutton St Michael, Hereford & Worcester: report on geophysical survey, June 1991
The remains of two buildings revealed on aerial photogaphs as parchmarks were equated with the site of a Mercian (eighth-century AD) royal palace, located in the area according to historical sources. Resistivity survey provided exceptionally clear definition of the extent and layout of the structural remains, together with associated features not previously visible. Details of a surrounding complex of medieval earthworks linked to the former moated manor of Freens Court were also resolved. The clear description of the site provided by the survey evidence has enabled informed protection measures to be introduced.
