Abstract: |
Thirty-two tree-ring samples were taken from twenty-seven timbers from various phases at Wenham Manor Barn, Rogate, West Sussex. Five timbers from the primary structure of five bays were sampled of which three dated, one with precise felling date of winter AD 1498/99. The dendrochronology also identified various repair phases with felling dates from AD 1586/87, AD 1596, and AD 1604/05, although the interpretation of the later phases is not clear because of the number of re-used timbers. A re-used rafter was also found with a felling date of AD 1340. The dating produced four individual site masters covering the periods AD 1234--1498, AD 1387--1586, AD 1479--1595, and AD 1507--1604. Three other undated site masters were also created of 71, 124 and 246 rings respectively. |
