Abstract: |
A geophysical survey was carried out at Etal Castle in Northumberland in an attempt to locate remains of a putative fourth tower suggested by the topography of the site. An excavation in the 1970's had previously been attempted in the most likely position but had found no traces of wall footings for such a tower. The geophysical survey results did not produce unequivocal evidence for a fourth tower but did detect another possible location for it along the north east boundary of the castle site, as well as finding the probablelocation of the excavation. |
