Abstract: |
The first systematic study of the poorly understood lowland areas of the county used information from tithe maps, OS records, and vertical air photographs, with some follow-up field walking. Many new sites were revealed; buildings and industrial monuments are also listed. Recommendations are made for meeting the threats from opencast mining and stone quarrying, and appendices treat the vegetational history, the place-names, and comparative landscape histories of three individual parishes. |
