The purpose of the conference and study tour was to bring to attention the increasing losses of archaeological remains caused by afforestation in Scotland. Contributors to the volume are Tom Band, David Breeze, John Dunbar, Jim McCarthy, Roger Mercer, Richard Ogilvie, Alastair Rowan, Ian Shepherd, John Smith (Aberdeen), and Christopher Smout. Some papers have postscripts summarizing the improvements which have come about in the two years since the conference was held.
