Abstract:
The gravel deposits of this area (Lechlade to Goring) bear extensive evidence of man's settlement over a period of 5000 years. This is being destroyed at an alarming rate. The survey outlines the importance of the archaeological evidence, shows how it has been collected in the past, and brings together in maps and gazetteer the results of aerial survey and fieldwork over the last fifty years. It details the threats to archaeological sites and presents recommendations for the implementation of specific policies for excavation, survey and selective preservation. Au(amp)
