Abstract
Nos 57 to 59 High Street, Bromyard
Vera Perry
65 - 68
Gives plan, sections, and descriptions of a former open-hall house. The open truss has a cruck blade at the rear, and at the front a post with principal rafter jointed to it, both sections having arched brackets to the collar. Trefoil openings, made by cusping, and two cusped windbraces remain. There is a moulded wall plate of early 15th century and a frieze cut into structural timbers.
Alfred Watkins and the Old Straight Track
Leslie V Grinsell
76 - 81
Argues that archaeologists should occasionally dip into the odder aspects of their subject as a prophylactic against falling into the lunatic fringe. A brief biography of Watkins and examination of his Old Straight Track theory from the viewpoint of archaeological, place-name, and folklore evidence shows how far he was from the uses of modern scholarship. There was an Old Straight Track Club in existence from 1926 to 1947. (See also 91/62.)
