Abstract:
Desk-based assessment with geophysical survey on a site on the north side of Tillbridge Lane (A1500), directly to the west of the Till Bridge. The site comprises a field to the rear of the premises of Gelders Ltd, who propose to landscape it and create an ornamental lake. The geophysical survey found no potential archaeological features, while the research identified unbroken ridge-and-furrow across the entire site, showing that the post-medieval settlement at the bridge could not have extended into the site. The possibility of Roman remains was also considered to be low, as no Roman material has been found closer than the edge of Thorpe in the Fallows DMV.
