Abstract: |
April to May 2008, Oxford Archaeology carried out an archaeological watching brief at St Mary the Virgin Church, Kirtlington, in advance of the excavation of a service trench north and west of the church. The watching brief revealed 37 inhumations aligned west-east including one in a coffin, the fittings for 2 further coffins and a quantity of charnel. Little dating evidence was recovered from these burials, although the few coffin fittings retrieved were 18th-19th century in date. No evidence for earlier church structures was observed during the course of the watching brief |
