Abstract:
In order to assess the archaeological risk posed by a proposal to demolish the Turnford massey Public House, 13 High Road, Turnford, Hertfordshire, the Heritage Network was commissioned by the owners to undertake an archaeological desk-based assessment of the site, and an appraisal of the standing structures. A study of archive and database material relating to Turnford has indicated that there is a high risk that evidence for prehistoric activity, particularly dating to the late Bronze Age/early Iron age may survive on the site. cartographic evidence has shown that a building has stood in this location since at least the late 18th century. None of the extant buildings on the site are considered to be of intrinsic historical or cultural merit or value.
