Abstract: |
Birmingham Archaeology carried out an archaeological evaluation at the Castle Farm Campus of the University of Wolverhampton, Priorslee, Telford and Wrekin, Shropshire during May and June 2008. The work was carried out in advance of the proposed development of the site within the boundary of a scheduled ancient monument. Previous archaeological work recorded evidence of a double ditched Iron Age enclosure to the south of the site which was subsequently destroyed during the construction of Priorslee Lake. It was thought that cropmarks within the present site may be associated with the features previously recorded. Five trenches were excavated within the boundary of the SAM, with two of the trenches located over the cropmarks. No archaeological features, deposits or finds were identified. It is possible that the presence of the cropmarks could be explained by variations in the natural geology observed during the excavation |
