Abstract:
In September 2009, Archaeological Solutions Ltd (AS) conducted an archaeological evaluation at Float Fish Farm, Farcet, Cambridgeshire (NGR TL 2280 9468). The evaluation was undertaken in compliance with a planning condition attached to the approval of a proposed fish farm development, and required by the local planning authority. An archaeological desk-based assessment was prepared at the request of the client by AS (Thompson 2009). An archaeologicl evaluation was undertaken immediately adjacent (Brogan et al 2008). Seventeen features were recorded within the 12 trenches comprising two linear features (Tr 15. Gully F1055 and Tr. 19 Ditch 1034). 11 tree hollows/roots (trenches 15-20 and 23) and a fallen tree in Trench 13. Sparse finds were recovered, and the 'features' are undated. Environmental samples were retreived for further analysis. Letterbox samples were taken from each of the various peat and alluvial layers present at the site. The full stratigraphic sequence was documented in a column sample (Tr. 18).
