Abstract: |
Gloucestershire County Council Archaeology Service (GCCAS) were commissioned by Mr Nigel Edgeworth on behalf of Gloucestershire County Council to undertake a programme of archaeological monitoring, during groundworks associated with the construction of a new road link between the junction of Bristol Road and Cole Avenue (OS NGR 38135 21530) and the southern end of Secunda Way (Hempsted Bypass; OS NGR 38183 21646), commonly known as the Gloucester South West Bypass, Netheridge Section. The works included alterations to the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal, which was bridged by the Bypass. The archaeological monitoring recorded a very limited number of archaeological features given the extent of the groundworks undertaken for this scheme, with a total of six archaeological features being recorded. The features comprised undated small furrows, a backfilled brook, three post-medieval ditches and a spread of post-medieval building rubble. |
