Abstract: |
A geophysical (magnetometer) survey covering approximately 6.75 hectares was carried out at Wingates Moor Farm, Northumberland, prior to the determination of a planning application for a proposed windfarm. Amorphous anomalies identified throughout the survey area are thought to relate to localised variations within the superficial till deposits. Parallel linear trend anomalies indicative of ridge and furrow ploughing and field drains have been identified towards the south of the proposed development area. A linear alignment of anomalies in the southern part of the development area may be caused by a former trackway although a geological origin is also possible. No anomalies of obvious archaeological potential have been identified by the geophysical survey. Therefore, on the basis of the geophysical survey, the archaeological potential of the site is considered to be low. |
