Abstract:
In December 2010, Archaeological Solutions Ltd (AS) conducted an archaeological evaluation at Wood Green Animal Shelter, Kings Bush Farm, London Road, Godmanchester. Nine features were identified during the trial trench evaluation comprising two wall foundations, two possible ponds, three gullies and two ditches. Due to the severe weather conditions excavation was limited to the two wall foundations and a gully. The excavation produced no dating evidence. The alignments of the linear features did not respect the modern site boundaries or those recorded on the cartographic sources dating back to 1885. The features were not excavated due to the ground conditions, but it was thought that the features, like the possible ponds, may be relatively recent. The wall foundations are undated however they may represent the remains of out-buildings relating to the adjacent Kingsbush Farm, and it is possible that the ponds may be associated.
