Abstract: |
University of Leicester Archaeological Services were commissioned by Parkers of Leicester Ltd to undertake an archaeological evaluation of land at 254 Braunstone Lane, Braunstone Town, where outline planning permission has been granted for the development of the area as offices. The proposed development area had been identified as being of possible archaeological significance and some of the standing buildings may also be of historical interest. Five evaluation trenches were excavated across the proposed development area. None of which contained archaeologically significant remains. Trench 5 contained evidence of a track way and seen on early maps. All the trenches contained evidence of significant levels of made ground, which may mask potential archaeological remains. The results of the rapid building appraisal suggests that some of the affected buildings may be of historical and architectural interest. The archive for the rapid building appraisal and trial trenching will be held by Leicestershire County Council, under the accession number X.A28.2008 |
