Abstract: |
A photographic survey, equivalent to an English Heritage Level 2 survey, of The George Public House, a Grade II listed building on the Market Place, Belton, was undertaken in May 2009 in advance of proposed alterations to the existing building complex. The George Hotel is made up of a number of components of different periods and styles. The principal building is very much provincial in its architectural style and the only evidence of any contemporary dating is the graffitti scratched into the brickwork to the right of the principal door, about 2 m above ground level, that reads 'WT 1753'. The 1753 date is also repeated on the sign attached to the front wall above the door The archive will be deposited with the Leicestershire Museums, Arts and Records Service (Accession No. X.A127.2009). |
