Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief of geotechnical trial pits was carried out at Harris City Academy, Bermondsey. Natural sand was recorded across the site, sealed by a probable agricultural deposit that was reworked into the 17th or 18th century at the earliest. A heavily truncated wall footing was also recorded in the central southern portion of the site. This is likely to be associated with the 19th and early 20th century industrialisation of the area. All this was sealed by a widespread 20th century made ground deposit containing extensive demolition rubble, associated with modern levelling and redevelopment of the site. |
