Abstract: |
This report details the results of an archaeological watching brief undertaken by Pre-Construct Archaeology Ltd on land at Crayford River Crossing, Swaislands Drive, Crayford, London Borough of Bexley. The report was commissioned by J. Murphy and Sons on behalf of EDF Energy. The excavation of two circular shafts was observed during the watching brief, which were situated either side of the river Cray. The watching brief took place intermittently between 31st July and 24th August 2006 and was monitored by Rebecca Lythe and Mark Chesterman of Pre-Construct Archaeology Ltd. A deposit of natural brickearth was observed at the base of Trench 1, which was sealed by a layer of subsoil, capped by a deposit of modern made ground and tarmac. Trench 2 was not excavated to a depth sufficient to encounter natural. A layer of redeposited sandy gravel was observed in its base, which was also sealed by modern made ground and tarmac. |
