Abstract:
South West Archaeology (SWARCH) conducted a historical and archaeological desk-based assessment and archaeological monitoring and recording at the Donkey Sanctuary, prior to development at Trow Farm relating to the construction of a composting pad and dirty water store. Excavation and fieldwalking revealed the presence of prehistoric activity in the area dating from the Neolithic to the Iron Age. The evidence included an assemblage of nearly 300 pieces of worked flint dating from the later Neolithic to Middle Bronze Age, Early Neolithic pottery and Iron-Age features containing waste material indicative of iron smelting.
