Abstract: |
A programme archaeological monitoring and recording was undertaken by South West Archaeology (SWARCH) at the request of Mr Antoine Khayat prior to the construction of a tennis court and new entrance at Ash House, Iddesleigh. The archaeological monitoring was also to include works during the construction of a swimming pool, but these have been delayed until 2012 at the earliest. No archaeological features were noted within the area of the tennis court and only two irregularly shaped natural features, probably tree throws, were revealed. A series of six cut features were identified within a small area at the southern end of the stripped area, adjacent to the course of the old driveway; five linears and a roughly rectilinear pit. The few finds from the site were 18th-19th century in date |
