Abstract: |
A standing building survey of the ruined remains of 'Shore-Side', an early 19th-century building close to Crombie Point, was carried out on 19 January 2010 prior to its demolition. The building consisted of a two-storey house which once formed part of the Craigflower estate. This estate was associated with the Colville family and local sources suggest that the building was once used as a dower house. The house was originally rectangular in plan, and it may correspond to an earlier structure shown on Thomson's map of 1832. It was later extended at the S end and NE corner. The remains of an ancillary building contemporary with the remodelled 19th-century house and located at its NW corner were also recorded, along with the remains of a modern piggery. |
