Abstract:
The site is located in the Longlands area to the west of Sidcup. The archaeological desk-based assessment was commissioned in order to support and inform proposals to redevelop the existing golf centre into an improved golf facility. The site is on heavy clay geology with extremely scarce recorded archaeological sites or finds from the prehistoric to Roman periods, although tentatively dated Bronze Age ditches and pits were identified during a previous archaeological evaluation on or in the vicinity of the site. During the medieval and post-medieval period the site was in rural, agricultural lands that lie c.250m north Kemnal Manor. The site remained agricultural until the late 20th century when it was converted into playing fields. Subsequently the site was converted to the existing golf centre and beyond the necessary landscaping required for this conversion has been subject to little or no significant ground disturbance.
