Abstract: |
An archaeological field evaluation was carried out by ULAS on land at Snarrows Road, Osgathorpe, North-West Leicestershire (SK 432 190) in advance of a proposed new farm development. The site lies in an area of archaeological interest and a previous geophysical survey of the site had located a number of anomalies that may have had archaeological potential. A total of five trenches were excavated across the site. All five proved negative for archaeological features. The only features within the trenches were a possible furrow in one trench and evidence for a previous hedgeline within another. These findings broadly confirmed the results of the geophysical survey, which had identified ridge and furrow earthworks and two possible linear anomalies close to a known removed hedgeline. The archive for the site will be deposited with Leicestershire Museums Service with accession number X.A26.2010. |
