Abstract: |
An archaeological strip and map and sample exercise was undertaken by Pre-Construct Archaeology Limited during groundwork for the construction of a new car park on land at Audley End Railway Station, Audley End, Essex. The ground was reduced across the site by approximately c.300-400mm onto glacial sand and gravel. No archaeological features were identified during this ground reduction. The only artefacts recovered from the site were three small fragments of pottery recovered from the subsoil, two of which can be ascribed an early Saxon date, whilst the third, more abraded sherd, is likely to be Romano-British. |
