Abstract: |
In June 2009, Archaeological Solutions Ltd (AS) conducted an archaeological evaluation by trial trenching on land adjacent to Broadbents, No.4 Buttercross Lane, Epping, Essex. The evaluation was carried out in compliance with a planning condition requiring a programme of archaeological work in advance of the proposed redevelopment of the site to provide a single new residential dwelling (Epping Forest DC Planning Ref. EPF/2179/07). Despite the potential for medieval and post-medieval archaeological remains at the site, the evaluation revealed only a post-medieval made ground layer. The latter may have been associated with the rapid development of Epping in the 18th and 19th centuries. |
