Abstract: |
Cramp Sutherland Archaeological Services conducted an archaeological watching brief during the excavation of foundation trenches for a residential development on land at The Mount, Gravelly Bank, Lightwood, Stoke-on-Trent (NGR SJ 92552 41260). The development was in an area of potential archaeological interest due to its proximity to the site of an important AD 3rd-century Roman coin hoard. Monitoring of the groundworks was carried out in March 2013, but no archaeology was encountered. The natural clay subsoil was encountered at a shallow depth and had been cut by an iron gas pipe, which was probably early 20th century in origin. |
