Abstract:		 Wessex Archaeology was commissioned by CgMs Consulting to carry out a programme of archaeological evaluation in the car park at Sainsbury's Supermarket, Buckingham Street, Aylesbury, Bucks. The work is required as part of a planning application on behalf of J Sainsbury for the demolition of Cambridge Place House, Sloane House and the Odeon Cinema and for redevelopment as a new Sainsbury's Supermarket with undercroft car parking and retail units with flats above. In a preliminary response to pre-application discussions the Buckinghamshire Archaeological Officer had indicated a requirement for an archaeological evaluation on the Site prior to the determination of any planning application.
