Abstract: |
A desk based assessment was prepared in order to accompany a planning application for Birmingham City University phase 2 and 3 development. The site is in the centre of Birmingham. There is one Listed Building within the site although the effect of the development on this was considered in a separate report. There are also several designated sites within the study area. The site was not considered to contain sufficient archaeological potential within the development site to warrant undertaking evaluation excavations in advance of development. However, as the development was likely to affect any remains of post-medieval structures and any potential buried soils within the development area it was recommended that a watching brief be implemented during the initial construction phase to monitor the removal of overburden and record any archaeological features of interest. |
