Abstract: |
Wessex Archaeology undertook an evaluation of land comprising Phase 1 of a proposed residential development. Ten evaluation trenches were excavated, in which were recorded a diffuse shallow pit and three gullies, the latter being part of a post-medieval field drainage system on higher ground towards the north and off a break in slope to the north-west. A small number of finds was recovered, including sherds of what is probably mainly residual medieval pottery from both archaeological deposits and machine-excavated overburden in the north-west corner of the site. Trenches in the south-west part of the proposed development site showed evidence of considerable truncation and subsequent backfilling with modern refuse. |
