Abstract: |
Wessex Archaeology carried out an evaluation of the site during which 19 trenches were excavated. The trenches in the western and central areas showed much evidence of truncation and levelling, thought to be associated with the construction of the university buildings. The eastern part of the site, previously a sports field, was largely undisturbed and here a probable colluvial deposit overlying natural sandy gravel was recorded in all trenches. No archaeological features were recorded in any part of the site, nor were any finds recovered. |
