Abstract:
An archaeological field evaluation was carried out by University of Leicester Archaeological Services (ULAS) at Springfield House, 2, Chapel Lane, Hose, Leicestershire (SK 7374 2949). The work was commissioned by Mr. R Sherwood and Ms. Lisa Parker in advance of the erection of a new dwelling on the site, which is currently part of a garden associated with Springfield House. The site lies within the historic core of the village of Hose and close to the findspots of large quantities of Roman and medieval pottery. Two trenches measuring 10m x 1.8m and 7m x 1.8m were excavated across the footprint of the proposed building. The soil sequence consisted of around 0.40m-0.50m of dark garden soil lying over dark yellowish grey clay. No archaeological features or artefacts associated with archaeological features were discovered during the evaluation.
