Abstract:
Archaeological monitoring and excavation was carried out on the site of a proposed agricultural reservoir to the west of Ham Farmhouse. Excavations revealed activity dating from the Bronze Age to the post-medieval period, including five prehistoric pits, six Roman pits, a cluster of 26 Anglo-Saxon pits and postholes including four large pits (three of which contained loom weights), a separate Anglo-Saxon pit and post holes, and a post-medieval field ditch. Also present was a rectilinear field system including enclosure and possible drove way, tentatively dated to the post-medieval period.
