A survey by the RCHME recorded the Belsar's Hill earthwork in detail, enabling the identification of some original features and later modifications, mostly related to the medieval agricultural use of the site. An Iron Age context for the enclosure seems most likely from surface evidence, with a causewayed entrance on the northeastern side of the fort. Medieval and post-medieval disturbance included a droveway which had variously passed through and around the site. The survey demonstrated the relationship between the fort and the later field system, the fields preserving features which demonstrate changes in land use and structure of the open field system up to those of the nineteenth-century Enclosure movement.
