Abstract: |
The groundworks associated with the construction of a Solar PV development at Horsacott, Fremington, Devon were monitored and recorded by staff of Cotswold Archaeology. The groundworks monitored comprised the stripping of seven small areas for sub-stations and the excavation of approximately 1.7km of access roads and some service trenches (see attached plan). The exposed stratigraphic sequence consisted of: 0-0.3m (average depth) Topsoil 0.3m+ Natural substrate comprising grey and yellow silty clay An existing field boundary was observed during the widening of the existing site entrance but no other archaeological features or deposits were exposed. A small amount of 20th-century material was recovered from the topsoil but was not retained. |
