Abstract: |
An archaeological trial trenching investigation at the land south of Racecourse Road, East Ayton, Scarborough, North Yorkshire, took place as part of an evaluation programme in order to establish and facilitate with the understanding of the archaeological and historical assets that may be impacted by the new development. The evaluation consisted of the excavation of five trenches, positioned within the boundary of the proposed development in order to identify, characterise and date most of the geophysical anomalies, identified during a survey carried out by 'Geophiz'(Feb. 2016). A total of six linear features, two large pits, and a small pit containing the remains of animal and human bones were excavated all suggesting a prehistoric date. In addition, there was evidence of medieval ridge and furrows running on a north south alignment. |
