Abstract:		 In August 2016 a trial trench evaluation was undertaken at Houldsworth Valley Primary School, Newmarket, Suffolk to inform proposals for the development of a new classroom block and courtyard. Four trenches were excavated within the footprint of the development. Trenches 1 and 2 were devoid of archaeological remains. Trench 3 contained a post-medieval ditch, that aligns with a field boundary shown on the 1880 Ordnance Survey, and a possible medieval posthole. Trench 4 contained a single post-medieval ditch. No other archaeological features were identified in either trench.
