Abstract: |
A geophysical survey comprising both magnetometry and resistivity, covering 0.5 hectares of fallow land at Flaen Road, Flamborough, was carried out to inform a planning application for a proposed housing development. The magnetic data is dominated by very strong readings consistent with the presence of strongly magnetic material on the ground surface and in the topsoil, probably building materials left from adjoining housing developments. Against this background it is not possible to distinguish much weaker archaeological responses, if present. The resistance survey has identified areas of high and low resistance but with no pattern that might suggest an archaeological origin. Due to the magnetic contamination of the site the archaeological potential of the site is considered to be still unknown. |
