Abstract: |
Birmingham Archaeology was commissioned in May 2010 by Kier Partnership Homes to undertake an archaeological evaluation in respect of a proposed Residential Development at Longstanton Phase 3/ Field 11, Cambridgeshire (NGR TL 39197 67334). A geophysical survey had previously taken place at the site and trenches were located over anomalies to confirm the presence of archaeological features. The evaluation has provided evidence for archaeological remains dating from the Neolithic through to the post medieval period. Isolated features containing both Neolithic and Bronze age pottery were uncovered and the upper fill of a crouched inhumation contained several sherds of Bronze Age pottery. Flints tools reminiscent of the Neolithic or possibly Mesolithic periods were also recovered from the site and although these finds may be residual they do serve to highlight the continued occupation or use of the site perhaps from the Neolithic period to the present. |
