Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken by Cotswold Archaeology during groundworks associated with the development of assisted living accommodation at the former Hygrade factory, Chippenham, Wiltshire. While the site was heavily truncated by the former Hygrade factory and modern industrial development, surviving in situ remains of a 19th-century (or potentially earlier) mill race and two structures that may be associated with a 19th to 20th-century tannery were identified. No earlier features or deposits of archaeological interest were observed during groundworks and, despite visual scanning of spoil, no artefactual material pre-dating the modern period was recovered. |
