Abstract: |
The evaluation comprised the excavation of twelve trenches spread over two fields north and north-west to the substation. The trenches were positioned using a random grid array which had to take into account the presence of multiple service runs. All the trenches resulted devoid of any features or deposits pre-dating the modern period. In particular, the ones located in the field immediately north of the substation showed a sequence of made ground and re-deposited soil layers used to level and backfill the area which had been previously stripped for the construction of the substation, in the early 1970s. The smaller field to the north-west of the substation had not been subjected to deep truncation, but no archaeological features or deposits were unearthed. |
