A watching brief and excavation were carried out at the site. Although heavy truncation by modern activity had occurred, significant archaeological deposits were located. The long-lived site probably started as an enclosed settlement towards the end of the Iron Age and continued later than this, represented by contemporary pit clusters and post holes. Its location suggested a defensive function as well as occupational use. The last use of the site was as a cemetery in the late Roman period. [Au(abr)] | |||||||||||
