Abstract:
A watching brief was undertaken on the excavation of stanchion pits and foundation trenches. The site lies adjacent to the assumed line of the Norton to Settrington Roman road. The results confirm this location and suggest the presence of a building or buildings to the south of the road. Ditches, probably datable to the 3rd century, superseded 2nd century activity which consisted of a possible pit and build-up of several deposits. A row of cottages was constructed on the site in the 19th century. [Au(abr)]
