Abstract: |
A watching brief was undertaken during work on the installation of a new gas pipe. The trench was excavated in 11 trenches each of 30-60 metres long. A build up of stone in 3 trenches could be part of the medieval town wall or castle defences, although this alignment would contradict documentary evidence. A further wall uncovered could be of medieval or Roman date. Several stretches of road surface of possible Roman date were also observed in 4 trenches. [Au(abr)] |
