Abstract: |
Archaeological excavation was carried out by Northamptonshire Archaeology between September 2012 and January 2013, on behalf of William Davis Homes. Part of an early Romano-British rural settlement was uncovered as well as a small number of late Iron Age pits and post-Roman, Anglo-Saxon settlement. The field systems were constructed in the early 1st century AD and were maintained and modified through to the middle to late 2nd century AD, evidence for continuation into the latest years of the Romano-British period was not recovered and it is likely that the area was abandoned in the later 2nd century AD. The core of the settlement associated with these features was not within the boundaries of the excavated area, although the presence of relatively large pottery assemblages, often comprising large unabraded sherds, in field ditches suggests that domestic structures were not far away. |
