Abstract: |
Between January and May 2011, Oxford Archaeology East (OA East) carried out an archaeological watching brief along the route of the St Neots Footpath and Cycle Bridge (TL 176 592). The monitoring was carried out during the laying of a haul road for the construction of a footbridge and subsequent footpath/cycle way linking Eynesbury and Eaton Socon. The watching brief revealed post-medieval furrows and a number of possibly Neolithic/Bronze Age pits and ditches on the eastern side of the River Great Ouse. To the west of the river were a series of early medieval and later quarry pits and a sequence of medieval banks and ditches possibly associated with the castle to the south. |
