Abstract: |
Wardell Armstrong Archaeology was commissioned by Taylor Wimpey, to undertake an archaeological evaluation and metal detecting survey at land on Oakmere Road, Winsford, Cheshire (Centred on SJ 6280 6670). This work was required to provide information in support of a planning application for a proposed residential development at the site. The archaeological evaluation was undertaken over 3 days between the 7th and 10th of October 2014. The evaluation involved the excavation of 3 trenches, totalling 96m2. Archaeological remains were identified in Trenches 1 and 2, in the form of a single ditch that appeared to have been part of an old boundary and was visible in the two trenches. Trench 3 was devoid of any archaeological features. The metal detecting survey was undertaken over 5 days between the 13th and 17th of October 2014. The survey took place across 3 fields that measured in total c.6ha in size. Medieval lead spindle whorls were recovered as well as a large quantity of later post-medieval finds. |
