Abstract: |
The trenching consisted of twelve trenches arranged along the route of the proposed roadway to encircle the houses. No significant archaeological remains were encountered in the excavated trenches. The evaluation did, however, provide a valuable insight into the alluvial stratigraphy present on site. At the southern end of the site, there was a clear drop in the level of the underlying gravel terrace; and the identification of a deposit of silty peat present in the south-eastern corner of the site probably represents the edge of a channel or a floodplain deposit. |
