Abstract:		 An archaeological watching maintained during the excavation of a lift pit shaft (and preliminary inspection pit) in the basement of the Old Indian Institute Building in Holywell Street revealed three re-cuts of the town ditch dating to the 17th century, likely to relate to re-fortification during the Civil War royalist occupation of the town.
